The Allianz Stadium, previously Twickenham Stadium, has served as the home of England Rugby since its opening in 1909. After existing under its original name for over a century, the 82,000-seat stadium was rebranded in September 2024 following a landmark naming-rights deal between the Rugby Football Union (RFU) and Allianz—marking the first such naming sponsorship in its history. As the largest dedicated rugby union venue in the world, it hosts a wide spectrum of events—from international fixtures to community gatherings and world-class concerts.
Among the landmark fixtures under the new name, the first was a high-profile women’s Test between England (the Red Roses) and New Zealand on 14 September 2024, followed by a men’s international hosting the All Blacks in November. The stadium continues to be the stage for top-tier rugby—including upcoming matches in the 2025 Six Nations, domestic Gallagher Premiership finals, and traditional fixtures like the Army vs Navy game.
Beyond rugby, Allianz Stadium has increasingly embraced its role as a multi-purpose venue. In recent years, it has hosted global stars like The Rolling Stones, Rihanna, and U2. However, current licensing only allows for three major non-sporting events annually—a limitation the RFU aims to expand to 15, potentially accommodating up to 82,000 attendees per event to support a £500 million redevelopment plan. The push for increased event capacity is motivated by significant revenue generated—Twickenham currently contributes around 90% of the RFU’s income—and the need to remain competitive with other UK stadiums like Wembley
