Ashton Gate is a versatile stadium situated in Ashton Gate, Bristol, England, serving as the home ground for both Bristol City Football Club and the Bristol Bears rugby union team.

Positioned in the southwest of the city, just south of the River Avon, it currently accommodates up to 27,000 seated spectators.

Ashton Gate was originally the home ground of Bedminster until their merger
in 1900 with Bristol South End, who played at St John's Lane.

After the merger, the newly formed club continued playing at St John's Lane until the
end of the 1903–04 season, after which they relocated to Ashton Gate.

Ashton Gate has also been significant in the city's rugby history. Bristol Rugby
has played there multiple times since the 1920s, including a notable match on
27 December 2006, when they defeated local rivals Bath Rugby 16–6,
drawing a record Premiership crowd outside of Twickenham.

The stadium has hosted several rugby internationals, beginning with England versus Wales in
1899, and 100 years later, it saw the All Blacks face Tonga in a Rugby World
Cup pool match. Starting with the 2014–2015 season, Bristol Rugby made
Ashton Gate their permanent home.

Ashton Gate has hosted three England under-21 international friendlies. The first was against Italy on 12 February 1997, where Darren Eadie scored the decisive goal in a 1-0 victory before a crowd of 13,850. The second match, against Romania's under-21s on 21 August 2007, ended in a 1-1 draw.

Matt Derbyshire gave England the lead in the eighth minute, but an own goal by Joe Hart in the 25th minute allowed Romania to equalise, despite Cristian Scutaru being sent off in the  72nd minute.

The match attracted 18,640 spectators. The third friendly took place on 10 August 2010 against Uzbekistan's under-21s, with England securing a 2-0 win thanks to goals from Danny Rose in the 64th minute and Martin Kelly in the 78th minute, witnessed by 9,821 fans.

Additionally, Ashton Gate hosted the 2021 National League
play-off final after it was relocated from Wembley Stadium to avoid clashes
with UEFA Euro 2020 matches.

Following their promotion to the Women's Super League for the 2023-24 season, it was announced that Bristol City Women would hold all of their home
games at Ashton Gate, moving from the club's High Performance Centre, where they had previously played most of their matches.
