The Valley is the 27,111 capacity home ground of Championship side Charlton Athletic Football Club. First constructed back in 1919, three of the four stands were built over a seven year period from 1994-2001 with numerous renovations occurring throughout the stadiums history. Charlton had to endure a seven-year exile away from The Valley between 1985 and 1992 and since its return the ground has been expanded on multiple occasions.

The stadium’s name derives from its original location in a disused sand and chalk pit, giving it a valley-like appearance. Supporters played a significant role in its initial construction, manually levelling the ground and building makeshift stands.
