Pride Park is an all-seater football stadium in Derby, England, serving as the home ground for English Football League Club Derby County.

With a capacity of 32,956, it ranks as the 16th largest football ground in England. Set within a business park on the outskirts of Derby city centre, the stadium was constructed as part of the area’s commercial redevelopment in the 1990s.

Derby County has played at Pride Park since it opened in 1997.

The stadium has hosted two full international matches: England vs Mexico in 2001 and Brazil vs Ukraine in 2010.

It has also been the venue for several England under-21 matches and the 2009 Women’s FA Cup Final.

The Queen officially opened the stadium on 18th July 1997, before a crowd of 30,000 spectators. By then, the southwest corner, located between the main stand and the horseshoe, had been completed.

Due to high interest from potential corporate clients, Lionel Pickering, one of the clubs directors, urged the board to fully complete the stadium, raising the initial costs to £22 million. However, work on the remaining corner was still ongoing on the opening day, prompting Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, to jokingly ask Taylor Woodrow contract manager Ross Walters, “Haven’t you been paid yet?”

Two weeks later, on 4th August 1997, the first-ever game at Pride Park Stadium took place against Italian side Sampdoria, ending in a 1-0 defeat with Vincenzo Montella scoring the only goal. The match drew an attendance of 29,041, the highest for a Derby County home game in 20 years.

  • Two Million cars parked
