Located in Holloway, London, the Emirates Stadium, officially known as Arsenal Stadium during UEFA competitions, has served as the home ground for Arsenal Football Club since its opening in 2006. Recently, in 2024, Arsenal’s women’s team also made the Emirates their home base, underscoring the venue’s importance to the club.
With a seating capacity of 60,704, it ranks as one of England's largest football stadiums by capacity.
Arsenal’s journey to the Emirates began in 1997 when the club sought to expand its former home, Highbury Stadium. After Islington Council denied planning permission, Arsenal began exploring other options, including the possibility of purchasing Wembley Stadium.
In 2000, the club acquired land at Ashburton Grove and, a year later, received approval from the council to construct a new stadium—a decision that manager Arsène Wenger described as pivotal in Arsenal’s history.
Financial constraints initially delayed progress, but construction resumed in 2004, with Emirates as the main sponsor. By 2006, the £390 million project was completed, and Highbury was redeveloped into Highbury Square, a residential complex.
Renowned for its immaculate pitch, the Emirates Stadium has earned the nickname "the Carpet" for the quality of its playing surface, recognized by fans and international sports media alike.
In addition to club matches, the stadium hosts international fixtures, often serving as a European base for Brazil's national team, and stages concerts by major global music artists.
A process of "Arsenalisation" began in 2009 to further celebrate Arsenal’s heritage, incorporating historic elements into the stadium's modern design, creating a unique and immersive atmosphere for fans and visitors.
