Bramall Lane is a football stadium located in Sheffield, South Yorkshire,
England, and serves as the home ground for Sheffield United, or better known
as ‘The Blades’.
Originally built as a cricket ground, the stadium is situated on a road named
after the Bramall family, who were file and graver manufacturers. The Bramall
family owned The Old White House at the corner of Bramall Lane and Cherry
Street, as well as the Sheaf House, a pub that still stands at the top of Bramall
Lane.
During the 19th century, Bramall Lane was the largest stadium in Sheffield and
hosted the city's most significant matches.
These included the final of the
world's first football tournament, the first floodlit match, and several key games
between the Sheffield and London Football Associations, which contributed to
the unification of their rules.
The stadium was also used by The Wednesday
F.C. (now Sheffield Wednesday) and Sheffield FC. Since Sheffield United's
establishment in 1889, it has been their home.
Bramall Lane holds the
distinction of being the oldest major stadium in the world still hosting
professional association football matches.
Bramall Lane is one of only two grounds, along with The Oval, to have hosted
England football internationals (five games before 1930), an England Test
cricket match (against Australia in 1902), and an FA Cup Final (the 1912
replay where Barnsley defeated West Bromwich Albion 1-0).
Additionally, it
regularly hosted FA Cup semi-finals and replays between 1889 and 1938. In
2022, it was a venue for UEFA Women's Euro 2022 matches.
The record attendance at Bramall Lane is 68,287, set during an FA Cup
fifth-round match between Sheffield United and Leeds United on 15 February
1936.
Following extensive renovations prompted by the Taylor Report, Bramall Lane now has an all-seated capacity of 32,050.

Sheffield United fans are incredibly passionate and vocal about their club, creating a fantastic atmosphere at games. However, this enthusiasm can be somewhat intimidating for away supporters.
It's one of those grounds where you can often tell what's happening on the pitch just by listening to the crowd.
Sheffield United vs. Sheffield Wednesday Rivalry: The Steel City derby is a significant event in the football calendar, with both clubs hailing from the same city.
However, the rivalry's roots run much deeper.
Today, the matches can be intense, but generally, there is a balanced atmosphere among the fans. This wasn't always the case. Bramall Lane, now the home of Sheffield United, was once used by Wednesday.
When the Owls terminated their lease agreement, Sheffield United was formed because the landowner wanted to replace the
lost income. Since then, the derby has been a fixture in the city's football
culture.
Sheffield United vs. Rotherham: With just six miles separating Sheffield and Rotherham, bragging rights are definitely on the line when these two teams
meet. Although the clubs have often played in different divisions, which diminishes the rivalry somewhat, the fixture still carries more significance than a typical match.
Within the away section of Bramall Lane, around 3,000 supporters are able to be housed within the lower tier of the HE Barnes Bramall Lane Stand (West).
However, if the occasion is a cup game, then the upper tier can be made
available for away fans too.
