Hillsborough Stadium, located in Sheffield, England, has been
the home of Sheffield Wednesday since its opening in 1899.
The ground has
undergone significant redevelopment, featuring new stands on each side and
a reconstructed South Stand for UEFA Euro 1996.
It boasts two large
two-tiered stands and two large single-tiered stands, all of which are covered.
All of the stands have a similar capacity, with the South Stand being the
largest and the West Stand, typically housing away supporters, being the
smallest.
Sheffield City Council has approved the club's plans to renovate the stadium
and increase its capacity to 44,825, with the goal of hosting World Cup
matches.
In 2015, the playing surface was upgraded to the Desso
GrassMaster system, which included a complete overhaul of the under-soil
heating and drainage systems.
Additionally, the scoreboard was replaced with
a modern 'big screen' before the 2015–16 season. The stadium has previously
hosted World Cup and European Championship football in 1966 and 1996,
respectively.
The stadium's capacity has been temporarily reduced to 34,835 for safety
reasons, but efforts are ongoing to restore it to its maximum capacity.

rolls, burgers and hot dogs are all available with prices ranging from £2.60 to

ciders starting at £3.30, but you will have to queue separately for booze and

Be sure to allocate ample time since buses tend to fill up quickly on matchdays, and traffic can be dense.
Departing from Liverpool City Centre, you can opt for the special 917 bus designated for matchdays, offering direct transport to the stadium. Alternatively, if you prefer shorter queues, the 26 departing from Liverpool ONE bus station might be slightly less crowded.

Hillsborough Stadium is situated in the north-west of Sheffield, approximately
2.5 kilometers from the city centre and 3 kilometers from Sheffield Rail Station.
It is a fair walk away from the stadium, but is a 13 minute drive, so we would
recommend grabbing a taxi, bus or tram to make your way over on
matchdays.
If you are arriving by train, the easiest way to get to the ground is by taking the
Supertram, which has a stop right next to the railway station and runs every
ten minutes during the day. Board a blue tram heading towards Malin Bridge
and get off at the Hillsborough stop, followed by a ten-minute walk to the
ground. Alternatively, from Hillsborough, you can switch to the yellow line tram
to Leppings Lane, which is right by the stadium. You can also take the blue
tram from the railway station into the City Centre and transfer there to a yellow
tram (destination Middlewood) for the Leppings Lane stop. The Supertram
journey takes about 20 minutes. It's economical to buy an all-day ticket
onboard from conductors, which is cheaper than purchasing two single tickets.
This "Dayrider" ticket costs £3.90 for adults and £2 for children and allows you
to visit some excellent Real Ale pubs around the city. However, be cautious
not to miss the match!
A favourite amongst away fans is The Railway Hotel, located just a short 12
minute walk from the venue, it is clear to see why. Providing its many visitors
with a selection of ales, lagers, wines and plenty of other beverages.
Supporters can venture out into their very own beer garden, play a bit of pool
or have a boogie when selecting songs on the vinyl jukebox.

New Barrack Tavern. A family-run pub that's firmly rooted within the local
community. Within its interior, it comprises multiple areas and includes a lovely
beer garden at the rear of the establishment. You definitely won’t be short of
drinking options here, with an extensive range of 12 cask beers alongside keg
beers, real ciders, wines, spirits and soft drinks. The pub does provide some
brilliant transport links, with easy access to buses and trams.
